I have finished the course.... it really came at a bad time.. the month of all the High Holidays....and to top it off the holidays came in the middle of the week so it was weekend...holiday..weekend holiday etc...
All in all I enjoyed the course... there were some disappointments:

I was the only one to post on the board
It was geared to acrylic paints and not for oils... I knew this from the beginning and asked before taking if I could use oils and although she answered yes she hadn't much experience with oils and really couldn't help much.
Aside from technical problems...oils vs acrylic I missed some real criticism and feedback was slim.

I didn't do all the exercises so here are a few more....

Although I didn't succeed in getting all the effects I did learn a lot ... wet on wet is difficult and working on relatively small formats let me experiment and therefore learn more. One thing that I did learn was not to be afraid... the paints won't come up and bite!!!

LVS Learning to Paint

Have started a course at LVS

Hope with the help of these lessons I will become more familiar with the media and what I can do.

Lesson 1

Making a blended sky and making clouds using the dry brush technique. I found this a bit difficult because I am not quite used to painting wet on wet.. we also made sets of mountains and a bit of foreground.

Both were done in oils on 8"x11" 400 gram paper that was coated with 3 acrylic layers. Clicking on the images brings up a larger format.

Getting out of our comfy zone was the challenge this weekend!!!
Soft pastels are out of my comfy zone!!! No pre-sketch!!!
Canson light grey 160grm...soft pastels ...mixed.... also a few pastel pencils. 1hr+

Painting Class May 11 -18 2008

Worked mainly in the seascape. Worked on the clouds, land, and the sea.



May 18

Later at home I decided that the sea needed work,and wanted to change the land as well. Worked on the window frames as well. Didn't photograph the work at this stage and continued to do more work mainly on the curtains in class.

Painting Class April 27 - May 4 2008

Have started a new project. Two canvases for Naomi..... may have bitten off more than I can chew this time. Naomi loves the Dali painting, Woman at the window, that was used for a best selling book cover, Sophie's Island, Hebrew edition, which will be my reference image.



Using the motive of a figure looking out of the window at a seascape decided to use as models my daughter and husband. Each on on its own canvas.

Sketch with base color ochre. Sketch of Naomi is very light because I redid her putting her closer to the left side of the window.
